The pair were decorated upon arrival in the country with colourful bouquets.

It is not clear whether Prince Michael travelled to Sri Lanka for a holiday or whether he was on business.

He has visited Sri Lanka before, in 2008, at which time he opened a villa.

The Princess Royal has become known for her hardworking approach to royal life.

The princess was praised by royal commentators for carrying her own luggage and wearing old items of clothing, championing sustainability.

During her time in the South Asian nation, the princess, along with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, visited Colombo, Kandy and Jaffna.

She also met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe, after former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country in 2022 during mass protests.

The Prince and Princess of Kent are not part of the working Royal Family, though they still appear at occasional events.
