Prince Harry is expected to return to the UK to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games this year.

In May 2023, the prince could come back to Britain to attend a service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London in celebration of the games.

Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick service men and women to compete in sporting events.

The news comes as the government have announced a multi-million-pound bid to see the games return to the UK.

The four-year programme would see the Invictus Games hosted in the Midlands, in Birmingham in 2027.

The scheme is being supported by the Ministry of Defence and the Royal British Legion.

Johnny Mercer, the minister for veterans’ affairs and leading the bid, said: “It feels like the right time and the right place. The biggest power of recovery has always been in sport, has always been in Invictus and the Duke of Sussex led the way when he set these Games up ten years ago.

“It feels like a natural rounding of the circle to come back to the UK and we’re going to do everything we can to win the bid.”

Mercer will host a symposium at the NEC in Birmingham to discuss the plan with potential donors.

Another source close to the project said: “Harry has indicated that he is comfortable coming back for a British-based Invictus Games and we understand that the Games have always had the support of the rest of the Royal Family.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also expected to travel to Canada on February 14 for two days to attend the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025’s One Year to Go celebrations.

The couple will spend three days at the Winter Training Camp and speak to members from the participating nations.

The programme gives coaches, competitors and team managers the chance to attempt winter adaptive sports in advance of the Games in 2025.

The 2025 Invictus Games will be held in Canada marking the first time the Games has returned to a former host nation.

Meghan and Harry’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet may even attend next year's games.

In a speech at the last Invictus Games in Germany, Meghan said: “We can't wait to bring our kids also so they can experience just how awesome this is.”
