The pair's relationship has turned frosty in recent years

The prospect of a rapprochement between Prince Harry and King Charles has been soured by Lady Colin Campbell.

The socialite told GB News that she does not think relations between the pair can be fully rekindled while the Duke of Sussex remains married to Meghan Markle.

The pair's relationship has turned frosty in recent years after bombshell claims made by Harry in his memoir, Spare, as well as other media productions.

Despite Harry returning to the UK to be by his father’s side after his cancer diagnosis, Lady C is sceptical as to whether this represents a shift of narrative.

“I’m delighted that Meghan is not coming, that would have added a whole different, awkward dimension”, she told GB News host Patrick Christys.

“I think it is a good opportunity for improved relations. The mistake people make in this situation is to think that a leopard changes it spots.

“A leopard does not change its spots. As long as Harry and Meghan are together, there is no possibility of a genuine rapprochement between families.”

She added that Charles will be delighted to see his son, as despite a troubled few years, he still loves him.

“I think that it will be a very nice thing for the King to have. He loves Harry and I’m delighted to see Harry will be doing the decent thing”, she said.

“The danger is to expect the leopard to change its spots.”

The Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said Harry has spoken with Charles, who personally called both his sons to share the shock news of his cancer diagnosis.

Harry will be crossing the pond on his own, with the Duchess of Sussex staying in the US with the couple’s two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

While the Duke remains in contact with his father, his long-running rift with the Prince of Wales has shown little sign of a reboot.

Charles, according to Harry, pleaded with his sons during a tense meeting after the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral: “Please, boys. Don’t make my final years a misery.”

Harry and Meghan wanted a half in-half out approach to royal life, but in the end quit as senior working royals amid the Megxit crisis in 2020.

In their primetime Oprah interview in 2021, they went on to accuse an unnamed royal – later claimed to be two royals – of making a racist comment about what skin colour their son Archie would have before he was born.

Harry also said Charles stopped taking his calls when he was trying to discuss stepping down as a working royal.

“My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don’t get to leave. And I have huge compassion for that,” Harry told Winfrey.
