The Sussexes are thought to maintain a close relationship with Princess Eugenie, who also has a Portuguese home

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have enlisted designers from Soho House to transform their Portuguese holiday home, a property they acquired for £6.3million in 2023, according to reports.

The renovation, first reported in the Mail, is expected to cost thousands, potentially millions, as the couple bring the club's distinctive aesthetic to Portugal's Atlantic coastline.

The couple's connection to the global members' club stretches back to 2016, when they enjoyed their first blind date at the Greek Street venue in central London.

The pair also frequently visited Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds, where luxury cabins command rates of up to £1,200 per night.

In 2025, Meghan's lifestyle brand As Ever partnered with Soho House, which the duchess described as a "full circle moment."

She wrote online: "Talk about a full circle moment! In my old stomping ground of West Hollywood, with a brand, family and friends that have been part of my life for so long also a part of my love story with H (since our very first date was at a SH restaurant)."

The private club is renowned for its carefully curated aesthetic that appears effortlessly casual.

Soho House operates its own interior design consultancy specifically for members wishing to replicate the distinctive club atmosphere in their private residences.

In 2019, the Sussexes commissioned Vicky Charles, the club's former design chief, to oversee a £2.4million renovation of Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

The project sparked controversy when it emerged that taxpayers' money from the Sovereign Grant had funded the work, leading the couple to repay the full amount.

Ms Charles, who runs a design firm alongside Julia Corden, wife of James Corden, reportedly also worked on the Cotswolds property where Harry and Meghan stayed during the Frogmore refurbishment.

Prince Harry and Meghan, who currently reside in Montecito, California, with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, surrendered the keys to Frogmore Cottage in the same year they quietly secured their European retreat.

The Sussexes are thought to maintain a close relationship with Princess Eugenie, who divides her time between the UK and Portugal, spending half the year in the European country, which may have influenced their choice of location.

Portugal's temperate climate, similar to their Californian home, and its proximity to Britain were also likely factors in the decision.
