Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to produce a new movie for Netflix, which will be based on a New York Times bestselling novel.

The Sussexes have had a deal with Netflix since 2020, and recently extended their creative partnership earlier this year to a multi-year, first-look deal.

The pair will be joined by producer Tracy Ryerson for their new venture with the streaming giant.

Archewell, the couple's organisation, will be producing an adaptation of Jasmine Guillory’s The Wedding Date. The book was first published in January 2018.

The partnership has so far generated documentaries, scripted series, films, sports, and lifestyle programming, with releases including Polo, With Love, Meghan, Heart of Invictus, Harry & Meghan, and Live to Lead.

The news of the new production comes just after the release of With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, which was critically panned by reviewers.

Daily Mail reviewer Annabel Fenwick Elliot gave the special zero stars, saying: “It's the syrupy hypocrisy and our hostesses' deep lack of self-awareness that continues to make her and this show so unlikeable.”

Times columnist Hilary Rose described the show as "unfathomable", adding that it includes “four pointless crafts, three random 'friends', two unseen kids, one English prince and a duchess in a pear tree, or at least making pear syrup.”

The Express took a different approach, with Emily Ferguson giving a much more positive review, claiming the show gives “some handy tips on wrapping awkward items such as cuddly toys and wine bottles.

“The special one-off episode, released on the same day the Royal Family welcomes the German President and First Lady to Windsor Castle for a three-day state visit, balances festive fun with personal anecdotes that are sure to please her fan base.”

The news comes days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s latest documentary was released on Netflix.

The show, titled Masaka Kids - A Rhythm Within, is described as a "joyful short documentary", which aims to "spread hope and achieve global acclaim".

The production focuses on "the story behind the Uganda-based YouTube dance sensations who have endured devastating personal loss from famine and war, and use the power of dance and song to overcome hardship".

Last month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex donated $50,000 (£37,377) to Masaka Kids Africana through their Archewell Foundation via GoFundMe.

The couple serve as producers on the project after discovering the Masaka Kids by Prince Archie.

Their son watched the group's viral videos during the Covid-19 pandemic, sharing them with the duke and duchess.

A spokesman for the Sussexes previously told The Telegraph: "They would watch the videos regularly with Archie at home.

"So, they were already admirers of the organisation before the film project came to them in 2023."
