The Duke of Sussex has previously expressed support for The Crown

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's latest staff hire previously worked on The Crown, it has been revealed.

Emily Robinson, who was announced as the couple's new Director of Communications last week, oversaw global publicity for the Netflix drama series from seasons three to six.

Season six of The Crown aired storylines that included Prince Harry wearing Nazi fancy dress, Princess Diana's Panorama interview, and scenes depicting Diana as a ghost speaking to Queen Elizabeth II.

The appointment has been interpreted as a signal that the Sussexes have no intention of reconciling with the Royal Family.

Robinson departed her position in April 2024, several months after the final and most controversial series of The Crown aired.

A source told the Mail: "She was always very charming and supportive to [creator of The Crown] Peter Morgan and all the actors in The Crown.

"She is one of the breed of publicists who think that the talent can do no wrong."

Season six of The Crown fictionalised a chance meeting between a young Kate Middleton and Prince William in London before Princess Diana's death.

The show also portrayed Kate's mother, Carole Middleton, as a matchmaker, determined to place her daughter in the future King's path.

A source added: "In the circumstances, it's almost beyond belief that Harry and Meghan would hire someone straight from The Crown."

Prince Harry has previously expressed support for The Crown, despite its controversial depictions of his family.

In a 2021 interview with James Corden, Harry said: "They don't pretend to be news. It's fiction. But it's loosely based on the truth. Of course, it's not strictly accurate."

The Crown released its final season on Netflix in December 2023.

He added: "I'm way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family, or my wife, or myself."

During a 2023 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Harry confirmed he had watched the series and did "fact-checking" whilst viewing.

The Mail has claimed that the Sussexes are aware of Robinson's background on the Netflix show but consider it only one programme among many she has worked on.
