No senior member of the Royal Family made a public tribute to Prince Archie's birthday on Monday

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to remain silent on Prince Archie's birthday contrasts with Prince William and Kate's public celebration of their children's birthdays.

Prince Archie turned five on Monday but the Sussexes did not release a statement or a new photo of their son to mark the occasion.

Harry and Meghan are very protective of their children's privacy and yesterday's lack of public announcement demonstrated they are not planning to deviate from this approach.

Last year, Archie's fourth birthday fell on the same day as King Charles's Coronation.

Prince Harry attended the landmark event in the UK but rushed back to the US to see his son on the same day.

Meghan Markle opted not to travel to London with her husband and remained in the US with Archie and his younger sister Lilibet throughout May 6 2023.

Prince Harry stayed in the US to spend Archie's birthday with the rest of the Sussex family this year but the duke will fly to London imminently ahead of his planned appearance at St Paul's Cathedral on Wednesday.

No senior member of the Royal Family is expected to attend the event scheduled to mark the 10th anniversary of Harry's Invictus Games.

Prince William and Princess Kate's relationship with the Sussexes remains frosty and a reunion is not expected during Harry's time in the UK.

In March, the Princess of Wales announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer and would be stepping back from royal duties to focus on her health.

Princess Kate has, in the last month, released a photograph each of Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte to mark their birthdays.

Prince Louis, the royal couple's youngest child, turned six on April 23 and Princess Charlotte, the Waleses middle child, turned nine on May 2.

Kate took both photos and shared them on social media to mark her children's birthdays.

The Princess of Wales's level of control in taking the photographs and choosing when to release them reflects Kate and William's desire to protect Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis' privacy.

The royal couples celebrate these birthdays in different ways but have the same goal of prioritising privacy when navigating the global attention their children receive.
