If reconciliation continues over the next couple of years, it's thought King Charles could attend the Invictus Games in Birmingham in 2027

This is a big moment for royal relations; King Charles has agreed to meet his estranged son, Prince Harry.

A single black Range Rover, without a police escort, quietly drove through the back entrance of Clarence House on Wednesday afternoon.

It is understood The King held a private tea with his son in Clarence House, but Buckingham Palace declined to give any further details.

The meeting lasted for just under an hour, before The Duke of Sussex dashed off to an event with the Invictus Games.

Ever since Prince Harry announced he was returning to the UK for a series of charity engagements, speculation was rife about a potential meeting.

Now, for the first time since February 2024, when Harry dashed back to Britain following his father's cancer diagnosis, the two have met.

On a human level, this is a son who clearly wants to see his father, who is living with cancer.

"I don't know how much longer my father has," Prince Harry previously told the BBC.

There is clearly an effort on both sides to begin some kind of reconciliation, otherwise this meeting would not have happened today.

However, on a royal level, King Charles needs to know he can trust his youngest son not to leak any private conversations.

Prince Harry has publicly spoken about private moments in the past in the form of an interview with Oprah Winfrey, a Netflix documentary, and a tell-all memoir.

It was thought a meeting between The King and Prince Harry also couldn't happen while Harry battled for his full police security to be reinstated; it was downgraded when he stopped being a working royal.

Constitutionally, it would have been problematic: His Majesty's son, suing His Majesty's government in His Majesty's courtroom.

Yet, now the legal process is complete, and Prince Harry appears tired of litigation, there could be light at the end of the tunnel.

If reconciliation continues over the next couple of years, it's thought King Charles could attend the Invictus Games in Birmingham in 2027, potentially a public show of support for his youngest son.

As for Prince William, it appears there is no chance of a meeting this week.

The Prince of Wales was in Cardiff today carrying out a mental health engagement.

On Monday, he was barely eight miles from his brother: both were in Berkshire.

Yet, it's thought Princess Diana's sons haven't spoken for a long time.

Perhaps the first step for Prince Harry is building bridges with his father, The King.
