An Australian woman grieving the loss of her grandmother found unexpected comfort from Prince Harry during a commercial flight.
Justine Parkhurst, who now resides in North Carolina, was travelling home via Los Angeles last Saturday after attending her nan's funeral in Australia when she received a surprise upgrade to first class on her American Airlines service from Sydney.
Upon settling into her seat, the emotional passenger discovered she had been placed directly beside the Duke of Sussex for the 15-hour journey.
Ms Parkhurst shared images of the encounter on Facebook, including a photograph alongside the smiling royal.

The seating configuration in the premium cabin placed Harry in a middle-aisle position, with his wife Meghan Markle occupying a single pod across from him.
This arrangement meant the Duke found himself adjacent to a fellow passenger rather than beside the Duchess.
Ms Parkhurst provided a diagram illustrating their proximity during the flight, which featured seats that convert into fully flat beds.
She also noted the presence of security personnel travelling with the royal couple.
"His wife was across from him and their security guards right behind them," she wrote.

The couple were returning to California following their Australian visit.
Tears had begun falling down Ms Parkhurst's face as she took her seat, still raw from bidding farewell to her grandmother.
Initially, she failed to notice who was beside her until the passenger began adjusting their seat.
"I didn't even notice the person sitting next to me until they were adjusting the seat and getting comfortable. It was Prince Harry," she recalled.
During their conversation, Ms Parkhurst told the 41-year-old Duke that her nan was the person she most wished she could tell about this extraordinary encounter.
Harry's response offered solace: "She already knows."

Ms Parkhurst believes her grandmother may have orchestrated the entire meeting from beyond.
The upgrade came after a last-minute change of plans, with Ms Parkhurst and her husband originally scheduled to depart on Friday before deciding to delay by one day.
"We were booked to fly on the Friday but changed our minds and decided to wait one more day and made the change late Thursday night," she explained.
When asked about her royal seatmates, Ms Parkhurst spoke warmly of the encounter.
"I will tell you that he was very nice and so was his wife. They were sweet to everyone and each other," she said.
