Donald Trump’s latest comments regarding Prince Harry and Meghan are a clear sign that the tension between the US President and the Sussexes has not subsided.

On Thursday, the Duke of Sussex addressed delegates at the Kyiv Security Conference and called upon the United States to fulfil its responsibility to Ukraine.

Prince Harry noted that America was among the guarantors when Ukraine surrendered its nuclear arsenal under the Budapest Memorandum in exchange for assurances of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"This is a moment for American leadership a moment for America to show that it can honour its international treaty obligations," Harry stated.

When the royal’s comments were put to Donald Trump, the US President dismissed the Duke of Sussex’s calls and instead passed on his “regards” to Meghan Markle, who has publicly criticised in the past.

President Trump said: “How's he doing? How's his wife? Please give her my regards.”

He continued: “I know one thing, Prince Harry is not speaking for the UK, that's for sure. I think I am speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry. But I appreciate his advice very much. It's great advice.”

The tension between the Sussexes and the US President started before Meghan was introduced to Prince Harry, when she publicly criticised Donald Trump in the build-up to the 2016 election.

Meghan said the prospect of Donald Trump becoming President left her considering staying in Canada, just months before she met Prince Harry.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to the US in 2020 and settled in California, which is a state that historically votes for the Democrats, while Trump was still President.

Months later, as the 2020 Presidential election approached, Meghan and Harry called on the public to vote and "reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity" in what was interpreted as a swipe at Trump.

The Duchess of Sussex added that the election was "the most important election of our lifetime".

Donald Trump hit out at Meghan in September of that year, saying he was "not a fan of hers" before adding Prince Harry "was going to need" a lot of luck.

The feud continued to bubble away after the 2020 election and three years later, during an exclusive interview with GB News, Donald Trump made his feelings clear on the Duchess of Sussex.

He criticised Meghan for 'disrespecting" the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Donald Trump told GB News: "I think she [Meghan] has been very disrespectful to the Queen. How can you be so disrespectful to the Queen?

"She was incredible, for decades and decades, she never made a mistake. I cannot think of a mistake she made; she was never controversial."

He continued: "She went through years and decades without controversy. You cannot be disrespectful to her and I think Meghan was very disrespectful to her, very disrespectful."

Despite Donald Trump’s positive relationship with both King Charles and Prince William, there is little chance of Prince Harry and Meghan building bridges with the US President.

In another exclusive GB News interview, Donald's son Eric Trump branded the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as "spoiled apples".

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did issue a rallying call ahead of the 2024 election but crucially, chose not to endorse a candidate or imply support for either the Democrats or the Republicans.

Instead, the royal couple called on the American people to register to vote and have their say in the upcoming election.

In the years that have followed, there have been no olive branches extended by either side.
