Prince Harry spoke for the first time about King Charles's cancer diagnosis

Prince Harry has spoken out for the first time since visiting his father King Charles, as the monarch begins treatment for "a form of cancer".

Opening up to ABC News reporter Will Reeves, the Duke of Sussex spoke of his recent trip to see his estranged family and discussed his life with Meghan Markle in California.

Prince Harry flew to the UK to see King Charles less than 24 hours after Buckingham Palace announced his cancer diagnosis.

The King met with his son for a reported "maximum 45 minutes" before being flown to Sandringham with the Queen.

In a conversation held during the Duke's Invictus Games press event, Harry admitted he "loves his family" and he was "grateful" to be able to visit the King so soon after the announcement.

He also revealed he plans to visit the UK more to be with the King as he battles his cancer, he said: "I have got many trips planned that will take me through the UK or back to the UK so I will my family as much as I can."

Amid rocky relations with the Royal Family since leaving the Firm four years ago, Prince Harry suggested that the diagnosis may bring a reconciliation with his family, in particular his brother Prince William, who did not make plans to see Harry during his whirlwind visit to the UK.

Prince Harry said he sees the "strength of the family unit coming together" on a daily basis, and that "any illness, any sickness, brings families together".

Reeves asked the Prince how he has "processed" the King's cancer diagnosis and Princess Kate's health concerns whilst living in America.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Harry told the reporter: "I have my own family, so as we all do. So you know my family and my life in California is as it is."

When asked how being a father to Archie and Lilibet is treating him, Harry quickly joked "I can't tell you, that's classified, it's super top secret", before backtracking and stating "the kids are doing great. The kids are growing up like all kids do, very, very fast."

The Prince praised his two children, revealing: "They've both got an incredible sense of humour and make us laugh and keep us grounded every single day like most kids do. So I'm just very grateful to be a dad."

Harry also admitted he has "considered" becoming a US citizen now he is living in California, but he "doesn't know" if he feels like an American.

The Duke added: "The American citizenship is a thought that has crossed my mind, but certainly not something that's a high priority for me right now.

"Everything inside the house and everything outside the house is keeping me busy."
