The eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales has a keen interest in flying

Prince George was spotted demonstrating his knowledge of aircraft and flying during the Royal Family's Trooping the Colour balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace.

The 11-year-old Prince was seen informing family members about an aircraft passing overhead.

It was revealed last year that the young royal has a “passion” for the skies and even took his first flying lesson just one day before returning to school after the 2024 summer holidays.

He was able to show off this interest as his grandfather, King Charles, was observed inquiring about one of the vehicles featured in the flypast.

"What is that?" Charles was seen to say whilst pointing at an aircraft, lip reader Jeremy Freeman told The Mirror.

William responded to his father with uncertainty: "Errr is that Poseidon?"

Prince George then confidently joined the conversation, confirming: "It's a Poseidon, yeah."

GB News’s Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker explained last year that George had attended a flying lesson at Waltham airfield, close to the family home at Adelaide Cottage.

George was able to identify an aircraft his father, Prince William, and grandfather, King Charles, did not initially recognise.

"William and Catherine watched Prince George on as he and the flying instructor took off in an aircraft, and they were in the air for around an hour as Prince George received that first flying lesson,” he explained.

Cameron added: “An onlooker told The Sun that George 'loved' his first lesson - and it is the right time for him to start.”

George's interest in flying would be a continuation of a royal tradition established by his great-grandfather, Prince Philip.

His father, Prince William, was a search and rescue pilot for the RAF while King Charles also flew helicopters in the Navy.

William and Charles also shared a moment to discuss the magnificent RAF display.

Later during Saturday’s flypast, William was also observed by Freeman turning to the King and exclaimed: "Oh my word, what a day."

The King's response captured his appreciation for the ceremonial grandeur: "Great theatre," Charles replied.

The lip reader also picked up on Princess Kate keeping her children alert as the national anthem was sung.

Seven-year-old Prince Louis, who appeared to be tiring after the a long day in the public eye, received special attention from his mother.

"National anthem. Louis, stand," Kate was observed saying.

Her gentle but firm approach appeared to work wonders as Prince Louis immediately straightened his posture and focused for the singing of the national anthem.

William was also on hand to help guide his children.

The Prince of Wales was spotted making a small gesture, placing a hand on George's back to compel him to adjust his position on the balcony.

The young prince immediately followed his father's instruction, moving along the balcony.
