Prince Edward made a swift return to royal engagements on Wednesday evening, attending a National Youth Theatre production in London merely 24 hours after withdrawing from a significant ceremony due to illness.
The Duke of Edinburgh had been absent from Tuesday's gathering at St James's Palace, where King Charles, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester presented awards to university representatives.
Royal sources indicated that Edward had been suffering from a cold and chose to space out his commitments to allow for recovery time before subsequent engagements.
His Wednesday appearance at the Dracula performance demonstrated a rapid bounce back from the minor ailment.

The press night took place at the NYT Workshop Theatre, forming part of the organisation's 70th-anniversary programme running from 21 February to 13 March.
Edward, who has served as patron of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain since 1987, appeared in good spirits throughout the evening.
Dressed smartly in an all-black ensemble featuring a high-neck top beneath his suit jacket, the duke showed no visible signs of his recent illness.
He was photographed smiling warmly, suggesting a complete recovery from the previous day's setback.

Meanwhile, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh has been undertaking significant diplomatic work in East Africa whilst her husband recovered at home.
The 61-year-old arrived in Mogadishu on February 23 for a two-day visit requested by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; her arrival was kept confidential due to security concerns in the conflict-affected nation.
During her time in Somalia, Sophie met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at Villa Somalia to discuss women's roles in fostering peace and community resilience.

Accompanied by the president's daughter Jihan, she also met survivors of sexual and gender-based violence committed by al-Shabaab militants and received briefings from local organisations about the prevalence of such crimes.
Sophie subsequently travelled to Kenya on February 24 for a further two-day visit ahead of International Women's Day on March 8.
The British High Commission in Nairobi confirmed she would focus on promoting Kenyan women's contributions to peace, security and economic growth, whilst strengthening UK-Kenya collaboration on the country's National Action Plan.
As a champion of the UN's Women, Peace and Security Agenda, the duchess has dedicated much of her working life to highlighting violence against women in conflict zones.
Her travels have previously taken her to Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kosovo, Lebanon, Sierra Leone and Ukraine, where she became the first royal to visit following Russia's invasion.
