The stripped-back monarchy is suffering the temporary loss of Charles and Kate

Prince Edward has been praised as a “rising” star for the Royal Family by royal commentator Lee Cohen.

With the stripped-back monarchy suffering the temporary loss of King Charles and Princess Kate from frontline duties due to health concerns, Edward has stepped up to a more prominent role.

Speaking on GBN America, Cohen heaped praise on the Duke of Edinburgh, saying he has his father’s “charm”.

“The Duke has over decades proved his value to the monarchy”, he said.

“The Duke and his wide, and Princess Anne and Camilla are proving their worth every day.

“The Duke is rising to the occasion when it’s needed.”

Prince Edward was last week awarded with Scotland’s top honour to mark his 60th birthday.

King Charles appointed his brother to the Order of the Thistle.

The Royal Family website describes the position as recognising “Scottish men and women who have held public office or who have contributed in a particular way to national life.”

It comes as Princess Kate found herself at the centre of a royal storm over doctored images which she later apologised for.

International press agencies withdrew the image amid suspicions of manipulation before the future Queen took to social media to clarify the situation.

Cohen told Nana Akua he wants the Royal Family to return to a time where they were “above politics”.

“Please can we not return to the days of never complain, never explain?”, he asked

“The whole world wants a Royal Family that soars above the chatter. Sits above gossip politics.

“I am not blaming the Princess of Wales. She is a model of dignity and she needs to be left in peace.

“I believe the Royal Family have the greatest model and example in the late Queen and Duke of Edinburgh as to how to handle public situations and I think they would all be best served by taking the dignified road.

“Queen Elizabeth showed the way.”
