Meghan Markle has once again addressed comparisons linking her to the “tradwife” movement, despite claiming in a new interview that she had never heard the label before.

The Duchess of Sussex appeared on The Circuit podcast with Bloomberg’s Emily Chang, who asked about criticism suggesting her projects glorify traditional homemaking.

Ms Chang said: “There’s this take that you’re glorifying homemaking or glorifying tradwives.”

Meghan appeared surprised, responding: “Oh really? That feels odd to me. I haven’t heard that. But I am really unapologetic about the fact that, wouldn't it be lovely to go and churn your own butter?

“Sure, maybe, I don't have time for that. And I don’t think you can get an extra gold star if you do that."

The Duchess of Sussex added: "I have absolutely no judgment on tradwives. If that works for them, then they should do it. But for me, I think there is an in-between.”

Despite Meghan’s claim that she “hadn’t heard” the tradwife comparison, she previously addressed the label in an interview with People magazine on March 3, 2025.

At the time, she said she does not consider herself a “tradwife”, shorthand for “traditional wife”, and prefers a middle ground.

“I like being able to do a hybrid,” she explained, noting that while Chinese food delivery is a favourite, “even when I get takeout, I will try to plate it beautifully.”

In that interview, she encouraged others to aim for balance rather than perfection. “The series is about doing what you can do,” she said, “and doing it with love.”

Her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, now in its second season, has fuelled much of the discussion about her approach to homemaking.

The series shows the Duchess of Sussex cooking and entertaining celebrity guests, while highlighting products from her As Ever lifestyle brand.

Detractors argue it paints an idealised image of domesticity, while Meghan maintains it is about finding joy in small rituals without pressure.

On The Circuit, she reinforced that message, rejecting the idea that homemaking should be competitive or measured by extremes.

“I don’t think you can get an extra gold star if you do that,” she said of elaborate tasks such as churning butter.

At the same time, she stressed that she did not criticise women who embrace traditional domestic roles, calling her own approach “an in-between.”
