The Princess of Wales and the King have both received hospital treatment recently

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been warned against issuing a "performative" statement about Princess Kate and King Charles by a royal commentator.

The Princess of Wales and King Charles have both received hospital treatment for different health scares over the past week.

On Wednesday, January 17, Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace both released statements about Kate and King Charles's health respectively.

The Princess of Wales, 42, was admitted to hospital on Tuesday, January 16 for "planned abdominal surgery", according to Kensington Palace's statement.

Kate is expected to remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days, and is unlikely to return to royal duties until after Easter.

Meanwhile, the King is seeking hospital treatment for an enlarged prostate.

It is understood the monarch made his diagnosis public in order to encourage other men to get medically checked.

Prince Harry and Meghan have not issued any public statements about Kate or the King, however, a royal commentator exclusively told GB News that they "should not be expected to do so".

Victoria Arbiter, a royal author, claimed: "I don’t see why Harry and Meghan should be expected to make a public statement.

"It would be performative at best and as history has shown, when they do speak out they’re criticised for making it all about themselves and when they don’t, they’re accused of being uncaring.

"They’re damned either way. Hopefully, they felt it appropriate to contact the King and the Princess of Wales privately."

The Duke of Sussex was criticised by some for not mentioning his father or sister-in-law during his acceptance speech at the Living Legends of Aviation Awards last week.

Harry later travelled to Jamaica with his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, for the film premiere of “Bob Marley: One Love”.

Neither the duke nor duchess made any public statement about the Princess of Wales or the King's health.

However, Harry and Meghan have reached out to the King and Kate privately, according to an insider.

A source told the Mirror: "The King and the Princess of Wales have received support from Prince Harry and Meghan regarding their health. The duke and duchess contacted both parties in different ways to pass on their concern and best wishes."
