Meghan Markle has been accused of “not doing the legwork” following the cancellation of her and Prince Harry’s lucrative Spotify deal.

The Sussexes’ production company Archewell Audio made just one podcast series for the streaming giant after signing a contract in late 2020 for a deal estimated to be worth around 25 million US dollars (19.5 million).

Spotify announced job cuts earlier this month, meaning the decision to cancel the contract has thrown their frugality over the matter into question.

Speaking on GB News, royal reporter Kara Kennedy said Meghan Markle was keen for the “glory of big interviews”, but did not bother too much with lesser known guests.

Kennedy told GB News: “I was interested when this all of a sudden came up because I reported on this several months ago.

“In the final episode on Spotify we hear Farah’s [a producer] questions being swapped with Meghan’s.

“There was another episode where Justin Trudeau’s wife where there was talk on social media about different producers involved in the filming of that session thanking other people that weren’t Meghan Markle for such an excellent interview.

“So it is definitely true that Meghan wasn’t doing the legwork that she made out.

“I think what happened was that Meghan wanted the glory of the big interviews like Mariah Carey and other big names, but the little people were dealt with by staffers.”

The. Podcast Archetypes ran for 12 episodes from August 2022 with Meghan chatting to a host of celebrities, historians and experts about the history of stereotypes levelled against women.

Stars such as Serena Williams, Mariah Carey and Paris Hilton were among the guests.

The joint statement from Archewell and Spotify said: “Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together.”

An Archewell Productions spokeswoman reportedly told the Wall Street Journal: “Meghan is continuing to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform.”

The multi-million pound deal with Spotify appeared to be a key pillar in Meghan and Harry’s financial setup after they opted to step back from royal duties in 2020 and move to California.

The pair require a hefty income to fund their lavish lifestyle as they pay significant sums for security, among other things.

Kennedy added that the total number of episodes produced in the amount of time the deal was active is “insane” given the amount of events that have occurred in the past three years.

Speaking to Dan Wootton, she said: “When this deal was decided in 2020, Meghan and Harry had a different standing, Spotify probably thought they had an incredible deal.

“They’re now globally hated for being grifters, lazy and being moany.

“Spotify probably throught it was such a great deal at the time.”
