Meghan Markle has sent a message to Prince Harry's skiing pictures on Instagram.

The Duke of Sussex made an unexpected appearance at the St Regis World Snow Polo Championship in Aspen, Colorado, on Wednesday.

Harry, 41, took to the snowy polo field as a last-minute substitute for a friend, according to his spokesman.

The father-of-two competed as part of the Aspen Valley team during the prestigious winter sporting event.

The surprise outing saw the duke saddle up in the Colorado mountain resort, continuing his long association with the sport that has seen him participate in numerous matches over the years.

Meghan responded to her husband's public appearance from their home in California.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, posted an image of Harry mounted on horseback during the match to her Instagram story.

"Oh, hello there," Meghan wrote alongside the photograph.

While the duke participated in the snowy Colorado event, his wife remained at the couple's Montecito residence with their two children.

Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, stayed behind with their mother as the family prepared for the festive season.

The Sussex household is likely planning to celebrate Christmas at their California home this year.

Harry's longtime friend and former professional polo player, Nacho Figueras, was also present at the championship, though the pair found themselves on opposing sides.

Mr Figueras competed for the St Regis team alongside his sons, Artemo and Hilario.

The annual snow polo event has attracted notable attendees in previous years, with last year's tournament drawing celebrities including Anna Kendrick, Nicky Hilton, Billie Lourd and Riley Keough.

The Duke of Sussex has a well-established history with polo, having participated in charity matches for many years.

Before stepping back from his royal duties in 2020, Harry regularly competed against his brother, Prince William, in various tournaments.

This week's appearance was not the first time Harry and Mr Figueras have shared the Aspen polo grounds.

The pair previously played together at the Sentebale Polo Cup, held at the Aspen Valley Polo Club in August 2022.

Last year, Harry took part in the Royal Salute Polo Challenge in Florida, where Meghan cheered him on and Netflix filmed footage for their documentary series Polo, which was released in 2024.
