Speaking at Godmothers Bookstore in Summerland, the 43-year-old former actress told attendees that this casual approach helps visitors relax immediately upon arrival.
"It demystifies," she explained during the livestream event. "People walk in and go, 'Oh, she's in this with me.'"
The Duchess revealed that visitors naturally gravitate towards her kitchen, where she eschews traditional British hospitality customs in favour of American-style warmth.

Instead of the customary cup of tea, she keeps warm cider or hot toddies simmering on the hob, encouraging visitors to serve themselves whilst background music plays throughout her home.
The event featured a conversation with author Courtney Adamo, a friend of Meghan’s from their days at Northwestern University, where they were sorority sisters.
During their discussion, moderated by bookstore co-founder Victoria Jackson, the pair reminisced about backpacking through France during spring break and enjoying crepes together.
Both women, now mothers themselves, exchanged perspectives on raising children.

The bookstore itself holds special significance for the Sussex family.
Its name originated from a comment Prince Harry made at his memoir launch party, where he thanked Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and Victoria Jackson for their support.
He referred to the trio as his "fairy godmothers," prompting Ms Winfrey to suggest the name to the establishment's founders.
The Duke and Duchess previously showed their support for the independent bookshop by attending its opening celebrations in September 2024.
