The Spanish royal and the former handball star were married for 26 years

King Felipe of Spain's sister has finalised her divorce after previous affair rumours, it has been confirmed.

Infanta Cristina, 58, and IƱaki Urdangarin, 56, finalised their divorce in December.


The former couple signed the papers at a notary office in Barcelona, according to reports in Hola!.

Their split was confirmed in January 2022 just days after IƱaki, a former handball player, was photographed holding hands with another woman.

It was later made known that the woman was IƱaki's co-worker at Imaz & Asociados law firm, Ainhoa Armentia.

According to reports, IƱaki and Ainhoa now have a flat together in Vitoria, where he works at a small construction company.

After 26 years together, IƱaki and Infanta Cristina officially ended their marriage.

They got married at Barcelona Cathedral on October 4, 1997, having initially met in 1996 during the Atlanta Summer Olympics.

Cristina is King Felipe of Spain's elder sister, who donned a long-sleeved wedding dress with an off-the-shoulder design by Lorenzo Caprile.

She complemented her wedding outfit with the Spanish Floral Tiara.

The couple's first child, Juan, was born in 1999. Pablo, Miguel, and Irene, their daughter, were born in 2000, 2002, and 2005, respectively.

IƱaki was sentenced to five years and 10 months in jail in June 2018 for money laundering.

He was placed on supervised release in 2021 and subsequently only had to visit prison once a week.

Despite Infanta Cristina being found not guilty, King Felipe stripped his sister of her Duchess of Palma title in 2015.

The news of Cristina's divorce being finalised came as King Felipe and Queen Letizia visited the International Tourism Trade Fair in Madrid on Wednesday.

Felipe looked dapper in a grey suit with a red tie, while Letizia looked stunning in a black jumpsuit.
