King Charles has awarded Warwick Davis with an OBE in his New Year's Honours list, as he is honoured for his services to drama and charity.

The 55-year-old is best known for his roles in the Star Wars and Harry Potter franchises and has been acting for over 40 years.

Mr Davis will be given the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire after receiving the highest honour from Bafta earlier in the year.

He received the Bafta Fellowship for his performing and advocacy work, and at the time said: “This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I’ve been in Star Wars.”

He dedicated the award to his wife, Samantha, who died in 2024 and was also an actress.

Mr Davis co-founded the charity Little People UK in 2012 alongside Samantha to help individuals with dwarfism and their families.

The couple shared the screen during Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, where Ms Davis also played a goblin, alongside Mr Davis’s famous portrayal of Griphook.

He said “life has been pretty tough” since she died, and “she was always so supportive of my career, encouraging me to grab every opportunity with both hands”.

Mr Davis was born with a rare form of dwarfism called Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, and met his wife while filming the 1988 fantasy movie Willow.

The couple married in 1991 and had three children together; their eldest son, Lloyd, died just nine days after being born in 1991.

Mr Davis was given his first break when he was cast as an Ewok in Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi at 11 years old.

He was one of many actors to be honoured in the King’s New Year's list, as Idris Elba and Cynthia Erivo are among the recipients of their own awards.

Sir Idris Elba has been given a knighthood, acknowledging his years of advocacy and practical initiatives aimed at tackling youth violence and creating opportunities for the next generation.

The 53-year-old actor, who portrayed DCI John Luther in the acclaimed BBC crime drama, now holds the title of Sir Idris.

Born in London, the star has built an impressive career spanning television, film and music, but his recognition in this year's honours list stems from his extensive charitable work rather than his on-screen achievements.

Sir Idris has been a prominent voice in the fight against youth violence for some time, establishing the Don't Stop Your Future initiative, which collaborates with grassroots community groups to combat knife crime.

Together with his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba, he created the Elba Hope Foundation, an international charity providing grants to projects centred on education, economic opportunity and entrepreneurship.

Reacting to the honour, Sir Idris said: "I receive this honour on behalf of the many young people whose talent, ambition and resilience has driven the work of the Elba Hope Foundation.

"I hope we can do more to draw attention to the importance of sustained, practical support for young people and to the responsibility we all share to help them find an alternative to violence."
