The royal revoked nine individuals of their honours

King Charles has stripped former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg of his British royal honour after pleading guilty to abusing his estranged wife over a period of five years.

Hogg, 33, was awarded a Member of the British Empire in December 2023 for his services to sport.

However, the King has called for the MBE to be "cancelled and annulled", according to the official public record, The Gazette.

Hogg admitted to shouting and swearing at his then-wife, sending alerting texts and tracking her messages.

In January 2025, Hogg was sentenced to a "community payback order" with one year of supervision.

Scotland's former captain retired from professional rugby in 2023, after captaining his nation for three years.

He returned to the French side Montpellier before tearing his Achilles tendon in April 2025.

At the end of his career, Hogg claimed he "did not know what was going on in life" and was "up to his eyeballs in antidepressants".

He told The Rugby Paper: "I missed the buzz, the changing room, the banter. I missed rugby more than I ever realised. I gave up on my rugby career to try to save my marriage. At the time, I didn't know who I was.

"I was up to my eyeballs in antidepressants. I didn't know what was going on in life, whether I was making people happy or sad. I used alcohol to escape. I was purely existing.

"The Doddie Aid cycle ride from Scotland to Rome changed everything. For the first time since retiring, I felt part of a team again. I came back and told my dad: 'I've made the biggest mistake of my life.'"

Hogg continued: "I hurt people. Now, I'm learning to be selfless for the right reasons."

The news follows His Majesty joining forces with Catherine, the Princess of Wales, Prince William and Queen Camilla in just days as a united monarchy.

The King and Queen will lead senior members of the Royal Family at Westminster Abbey next Monday for the annual Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration.

Their Majesties will be accompanied by the Prince and Princess of Wales, marking a significant gathering of working royals for the occasion.

Princess Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, are also confirmed to attend, alongside the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

A congregation of 1,800 people will fill the historic abbey for the event, which this year takes its inspiration from the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting theme focusing on accelerating partnerships and investment.

Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, will not be present at the service, as the couple are expected to attend the Winter Paralympics in Milan.

The ceremony celebrates the Commonwealth of Nations, a grouping of 56 independent countries bound together by principles outlined in the Commonwealth Charter.
