King Charles is facing a “downfall” as a significant move from the monarch represents his motives, according to a royal commentator.

It comes after the King delivered a new look with new UK stamps, which feature his image for the first time.

Charles’ image, adapted by the design of artist Martin Jennings, is for use on coins by the Royal Mint, and will appear on all new stamps with presentation packs on sale.

Many commentators have pinpointed a striking feature of the image, with the monarch opting to not wear a crown.

Speaking on GB News, broadcaster Tonia Buxton says the move could be a sign of the King’s motives.

Questioned by Andrew Pierce over the lack of a crown, she responded: “That’s the problem… he’s more of a politician, and that’s where he will come undone.”

Andrew Pierce criticised the move, saying: “People think it’s because he’s not a crown King yet, that’s not right.

“It’s a deliberate move to try and look more informal.

“For goodness sake, he is the King, how can you look informal?

“He’s waited all of these years to be King, he’s the longest serving Prince of Wales ever.

“Put your crown on mate!”

According to the Royal Mail director of external affairs and policy David Gold, Charles had asked for stocks to be used as opposed to destroyed.

He said: “The King gave very clear directions he didn’t want anything to be pulped, he didn’t want things being shredded, he didn’t want stock being thrown away.

“He was very clear, however long it takes to clear the stock there’s no rush… entirely in line with his well-stated principles of waste and environmentalism.”

The first stamps features Charles’ silhouette went on sale in March in the corner of a collection celebrating the nation’s favourite flowers.

The new first class stamp will per a part of a London Postal Museum exhibition which runs until September 23.

Royal Mail said the rise was necessary to continue its one-price-goes-anywhere Universal Service.

Chief commercial officer Nick Landon said: “We appreciate that many businesses and households are facing a challenging economic environment and we are committed to keeping our prices affordable.

“Letters have declined by 25% compared to pre-pandemic.

“We have to carefully balance our pricing against a continued decline in letter volumes and the increasing costs of delivering letters six days a week to an ever-growing number of addresses across the country.”
