Windsor Great Park is owned by Crown Estates, with the King receiving 25 percent of its annual profits

Marvel Studios has secured permission to film the latest Avengers blockbuster in Windsor Great Park next summer, paying millions in location fees for the privilege.

The production of Avengers: Doomsday will bring Hollywood glamour to the royal estate, with Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as Thor alongside Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

Sir Ian McKellen is set to return as Magneto in the Marvel multiverse film, which follows the massive success of Avengers: Endgame, the second highest-grossing film ever with earnings exceeding £2 billion.

The substantial location fees paid by the Disney-owned studio will contribute to maintaining the historic park.

The production will transform parts of the royal estate into superhero settings, with planning documents revealing sets for Luke Cage's House and Annie Reynolds' House.

Up to 300 cast and crew members are expected to work on-site during the summer filming period.

Luke Cage, also known as Power Man, is a Marvel character with superhuman strength and unbreakable skin.

Annie Reynolds appears to be a new addition to the Marvel universe, reportedly playing the mother of Sentry.

King Charles, who serves as Ranger of Windsor Great Park, has been informed of the filming plans but is expected to be at his Balmoral estate in Scotland during production.

A source said: "Several million pounds is chicken feed to Marvel when their movies make billions. But the money will go to the upkeep of Windsor Great Park so the King of course has a keen interest."

The source added: "Some of the profits of Crown Estates make their way to the Royal Family so it's a win-win for everyone."
