The Invictus Games are scheduled to take place in July 2027

Prince Harry is preparing to invite King Charles and Prince William to attend the 2027 Invictus Games that will take place in Birmingham.

The Duke of Sussex is not on good terms with either his father or his brother but publicly declared his desire to reconcile with his family in a television interview earlier this year.

Harry will send an emailed invitation later this month, followed by a formal invitation, as part of action desired to mend relations with the King and other senior royals.

Prince William has not been on speaking terms with Prince Harry since the release of the Duke of Sussex's bombshell memoir Spare in January 2023.

The Duke of Sussex shared details of arguments with his brother and criticised senior royals including the Princess of Wales.

Sources close to Harry revealed that the invitation's timing was carefully planned to accommodate Charles's practice of scheduling commitments up to three years ahead.

It is unlikely that Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will attend the games in Birmingham.

Prince Harry has made clear he does not feel comfortable bringing his family to the UK without an increased level of security than which he is currently provided.

A source close to Prince Harry described his upcoming invites to the Invictus Games as "one olive branch from him which might be reciprocated."

The potential reconciliation has been discussed at the highest levels within the Palace according to sources, with senior aides recognising that the event could offer a valuable opportunity to heal the rift.

However, there are several potential issues surrounding members of the Royal Family attending the sporting competition.

Firstly, the Invictus Games are scheduled to take place from July 12 to 17 2027.

Queen Camilla's milestone 80th birthday clashes with the closing ceremony of the event on Saturday, July 17.

Celebrations for the Queen's birthday are likely already being planned and royal attendance at the Invictus Games alongside Prince Harry could risk overshadowing the occasion.

Secondly, Buckingham Palace sources declined to comment on the forthcoming invitation, maintaining that diaries are not scheduled so far ahead.

However, Palace insiders have previously stated that royals do not participate in each other's professional activities.

The King received an invitation from Prince Harry to attend a service marking the Games' 10th anniversary at St Paul's Cathedral in May 2024 but decided not to attend.

Finally, and perhaps the biggest hurdle, is the current state of Prince Harry's relationship with his brother Prince William.

The princes have not been on speaking terms since the publication of Harry's tell-all memoir in January 2023.

Prince William marked his 43rd birthday on Saturday and the news of the impending Invictus Games invitations to William and King Charles was revealed just a day later.

There was no public message from Prince Harry to mark his brother's birthday.

Last year, the Prince and Princess of Wales's social media account wished Prince Harry a happy birthday in September, but this may have been due to Prince Harry's 40th being a milestone birthday.

The Royal Family often celebrate landmark birthdays on social media even if the royal is no longer a working member of the monarchy.

With Saturday being Prince William's most recent birthday since that olive branch, the Duke of Sussex had an opportunity to issue a message to the Prince of Wales with a similar sentiment but opted against it.

It is not known if Prince Harry reached out privately to William regarding his birthday or to discuss the Invictus Games invitation in more detail, but what is clear, is that any public united front between the brothers is a long way away.
