The King and Queen are in France for a three-day royal tour

King Charles, 74, and Queen Camilla, 76, have suffered a scathing attack from the French Communist Party during their three-day tour of France.

Charles and Camilla are visiting France for the first time since being crowned King and Queen, but the country's communist party has publicly criticised the royals.

The communist party is named "Lutte Ouvrière", and its spokesperson Nathalie Arthaud told a French broadcaster: "What's the use of Charles III and Camilla?

"Apart from fueling tabloids and serving as a tourist attraction?"

The former presidential candidate additionally criticised the state banquet which was held at the Palace of Versailles on Wednesday evening.

Arthaud tweeted: "They will discuss the end of the world while watching fighter planes burn a few tons of fuel.

"And this evening at the Versailles banquet, feasted by star chefs and served by butlers, they will talk about the hard trials that humanity is going through."

King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in Paris on Wednesday. This State Visit serves to highlight the friendship between the UK and France.

The trip was originally planned for March earlier this year but had to be postponed due to widespread protests against Macron’s pension changes.

Charles and Camilla were greeted by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne at Paris-Orly airport.

On Wednesday evening, the King and Queen attended a state banquet at the Palace of Versailles, hosted by Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron.

For the couple's second day in Paris, Queen Camilla and Brigitte Macron attempted a hilarious game of table tennis.

Royal fans were amused at the Queen's repeated attempts to hit the ball across the net, which was videoed and published on social media.

In addition, both Charles and Camilla tried their hand at speaking French in individual speeches, which received great praise.

In particular, the King's speech, which took place in the French Senate, received a standing ovation that lasted a minute and a half.

After spending two days in Paris, Charles and Camilla travelled to Bordeaux today for the final day of their royal tour.
