The Duke of Sussex is visiting the Centre for Blast Injury Studies at Imperial

Prince Harry is in London today for an engagement at Imperial College. At the same time, it is understood King Charles has returned to the capital, raising the possibility of a meeting between father and son.

The Duke of Sussex is visiting the Centre for Blast Injury Studies, where he is receiving an update on research into paediatric blast and crush injuries.

If the two men do meet, it would mark their first reunion since February 2024, when Harry visited Clarence House shortly after his father’s cancer diagnosis was publicly announced.

That meeting was held at the King’s London base and came at a time of heightened concern for the monarch’s health.

Harry’s appearance at Imperial is his third interaction with the Centre for Blast Injury Studies. He previously opened its laboratories in 2013, then based at the South Kensington Campus, and attended part of the Blast Injury Conference in 2019.

Today’s visit focuses on the Centre’s more recent work on child amputees and how learning can be maximised for use in conflict and disaster zones.

Following a laboratory tour, the Duke is expected to take part in a roundtable discussion on mental health and medical evacuation in war settings.

The research is part of the Paediatric Blast Injury Partnership, a collaboration between Imperial College London and Save the Children.

The initiative develops guidance and training for medics dealing with children affected by blasts and crush injuries.

The visit also overlaps with the work of the Centre for Injury Studies at Imperial, which King Charles toured in February 2025.

On that occasion, the King viewed trauma simulations, prosthetic technologies and rehabilitation tools designed to support service personnel injured in Ukraine. The Centre for Injury Studies and the Centre for Blast Injury Studies are closely linked, with the paediatric strand forming part of the broader research programme.

The King’s return to London this week has inevitably fuelled speculation about whether he and Harry will meet.

Relations between the two have been under close scrutiny, and their rare face-to-face encounters attract significant attention.

In July, Meredith Maines, Chief Communications Officer for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, travelled to London for meetings with Buckingham Palace aides.

The visit was described by sources as “entirely routine” and part of ongoing planning and engagement.

For Harry, today’s engagement builds on a longstanding interest in blast injury research and the treatment of those affected by conflict.

For Charles, the timing of his return has drawn attention to the possibility of another meeting between father and son.
