King Charles welcomed winners of The King's Trust Awards 2025 to Buckingham Palace this afternoon, celebrating young people who have transformed their lives despite facing significant challenges.

The monarch was joined at the reception by high-profile supporters of the charity, including George and Amal Clooney and Dame Joanna Lumley, who serve as ambassadors for the organisation.

The gathering at the sovereign's main London residence brought together recipients of eleven award categories, recognising achievements in enterprise, education, community impact and sustainability.

The event precedes tonight's annual awards ceremony and also commemorates a significant milestone for The King's Trust International, which marks its tenth anniversary this year.

The awards honour young people who have triumphed over adversity, including mental health struggles, educational difficulties and unemployment, with support from The King's Trust.

During the reception, His Majesty met winners across eight UK categories, including Enterprise, Education, Breakthrough, Young Change Maker, Young Achiever, Community Impact, Rising Star and Volunteer of the Year awards.

Three global category winners were also present, receiving the Global Young Achiever Award, Amal Clooney Woman's Empowerment Award and Global Sustainability Award.

The King marked the anniversary of The King's Trust International by cutting a celebratory cake, acknowledging the organisation's decade of work supporting young people beyond UK borders.

The King's Trust operates on the principle that every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or the obstacles they face.

The charity assists those from disadvantaged communities and those experiencing hardship, helping them develop confidence and skills needed to live, learn and earn.

King's Trust International was established in 2015 by the then Prince of Wales to address the worldwide youth unemployment crisis, building on four decades of UK experience.

The international arm now operates across more than 20 countries, having supported over 100,000 young people in nations including Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Jamaica and Greece.

The Clooneys famously attended Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding in 2018.

Despite the outward show of camaraderie, it later emerged that the Clooneys confided to another guest at the wedding that they "didn't know" Meghan and Harry well.

Rachel Johnson, sister of Boris Johnson, wrote in AirMail: "There's a story going around that while Carolyn Bartholomew, Diana's former flatmate, was waiting for the wedding service to start, she turned to the couple alongside her and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan."

"We don't," the Clooneys answered brightly.
