Commonwealth Day will be celebrated on Monday

King Charles will urge Commonwealth nations to unite in the face of mounting global pressures, with his full Commonwealth Day message set for release tomorrow.

The monarch's address acknowledges that member states are grappling with armed conflict, environmental crisis and sweeping change, yet emphasises that such difficult periods reveal the organisation's true character.

"We join together on this Commonwealth Day at a time of great challenge and great possibility," the King states in an extract from his written message.

He adds that the 56-nation body can remain "a force for good" through collective action, rooted in community and environmental stewardship.

The annual Commonwealth Day service takes place on Monday at Westminster Abbey, drawing a congregation of 1,800 including senior politicians, diplomatic representatives and Commonwealth high commissioners.

The King and Queen will attend alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales, while the Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence will also be present.

Young people and prominent figures from the creative industries are expected among those gathering for the occasion.

This year's service draws inspiration from the theme of the forthcoming Commonwealth heads of government meeting, scheduled for early November in Antigua and Barbuda's capital, celebrating partnership as the organisation's defining modern strength.

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner, who serves as an ambassador for the Royal Commonwealth Society organising the event, will deliver an address to the congregation.

Oti Mabuse, known for her role as a judge on Strictly Come Dancing, will offer a reflection during the service.

Poetry will feature prominently, with Selina Tusitala Marsh, who holds the position of inaugural Commonwealth poet laureate, presenting a new work.

The combination of celebrity appearances and literary contributions reflects the service's broader aim of bringing together voices from across the creative community to mark the occasion.

The service will showcase several landmark artistic moments, with the world premiere of the Commonwealth Symphony, a new composition by Rekesh Chauhan, serving as a centrepiece.

A specially created dance performance will bring together students from the Royal Ballet School with Sapnay Entertainments, fusing classical ballet with Bollywood choreography to embody cross-cultural collaboration.
