King Charles has been hailed by Carol Vorderman for his "charming" and "lovely" demeanour, with the broadcaster admitting she has never felt nervous in the monarch's company.

The pair have met several times, with Ms Vorderman being involved with the King's Trust for more than 30 years, back when it was the Prince's Trust before Charles became King.

"I'm pretty sure I've been an ambassador for the Trust since the 90s, so I've met the King and the Queen lots of times over the years. He's always lovely and very easy to talk to. I even got him to do the 'Mobot' on stage once," Ms Vorderman told Woman&Home.

The broadcaster was full of praise for His Majesty, outlining his commitment to numerous causes and interests he shows when speaking to people.

She said: "Whatever people think about the monarchy politically, King Charles keeps turning up for the Trust and doing all he can.

"He stands up for what he believes in. He spoke about the environment all those years ago, and people mocked what he said, but it all came to pass.

"I think the Trust really is one of his greatest accolades. It's one of his greatest successes, if not his greatest success."

Earlier this year, the King shared he "wasn't going to be diverted" from his environmental campaign during a preview clip for his Prime Video documentary, Finding Harmony: A King's Vision.

Ms Vorderman has been supportive of the monarch with his efforts, as she recounted on her encounters with him.

She said: "He is always genuinely charming, and very interested in the younger people who are involved with the Trust, much more so than the celebs. I don't think he's ever going to be overly impressed by a girl who does sums on the telly!

Ms Vorderman's comments come as the monarch journeyed to Wales with Queen Camilla for the Royal Maundy Service at St Asaph Cathedral in Denbighshire.

The royals met numerous well-wishers clutching both Union and Welsh flags, all trying to catch a glimpse of the couple.

The service recognises individuals who have shown outstanding Christian service and made a positive difference in their local communities.

The ceremony marked a historic occasion for North Wales, with St Asaph Cathedral, Britain's smallest ancient cathedral, hosting the Royal Maundy for the first time in the region's history.

It has only happened once before in Wales, at St David's in 1982.

The late Queen Elizabeth II established the practice of rotating the service between different churches across the country each year.

Dating back to 1210, the first royal Maundy service was conducted by King John, according to the BBC.

Whilst monarchs historically washed the feet of chosen individuals, the modern ceremony centres on the presentation of specially minted coins.

The King presented Maundy money to 154 recipients today - 77 men and 77 women - a number chosen to reflect his age.
