It was advertised that the Princess of Wales would attend a Trooping the Color ceremony in June but an announcement came 'before palace officials were consulted'

Royal historian Hugo Vickers believes Kensington Palace was "irritated" over an "embarrassing mistake" from the British Government who appeared to confirm Princess Kate's attendance at this year's Trooping the Colour.

The announcement on the U.K. Ministry of Defence's website drew attention because the June appearance would be the first major official duty confirmed for Kate, 42, since she underwent abdominal surgery.

But officials seemed to have jumped the gun because Prince William and Kate’s office, Kensington Palace, hasn’t confirmed any scheduled public events for Kate.

The Princess of Wales is currently recovering from planned abdominal surgery and a statement from the palace said she would not be back to work until after Easter.

Speaking to GB News, Vickers said: "I imagine that probably Kensington Palace was a bit irritated by this.

"I guess that probably some some sort of ill-informed person just put out the normal document that would be put out at this time of the year expressing who's going to actually be present on the day without checking on the issue of privacy."

Earlier in the interview, he said the Palace should have been more candid in how it addressed Kate's recovery.

He told Eamonn Holmes and Ellie Costello: "I think it's a very difficult balance to get right because we were told she had the operation and we were also told we weren't going to be told anything more about it.

"I mean obviously if I was her press secretary, what I would be wanting to do, would be to tell some really good news when she's getting better.

"It would have been a good idea maybe to have a picture of her sitting in the garden with her children or something.

"It is a terribly complicated balance. If you show enough, you feed the media enough. Usually they will respect the boundaries.

"But if you tell them nothing at all, then of course they they think they're being deprived of information and they go into overdrive."

Rumours about why Kate has been missing for so long reached new heights last week, with several outlandish theories emerging.

To put an end to the speculation, the Palace said in a statement: "We were really clear from the start we weren’t going to provide a running commentary on the Princess of Wales’s health and only provide significant updates.

"Obviously, we’ve seen the madness of social media and that is not going to change our strategy.

"There has been much on social media but the Princess has a right to privacy and asks the public to respect that.

"We remind you of the statement in January where it was the Princess of Wales’s wish her medical information would remain private."
