The Princess of Wales released the image as past of her campaign called 'Shaping Us'

Kate Middleton has shared an image of herself as a baby as she urged people to speak to their family and friends.

In the photo, a young Kate can be seen reaching out to her father, Michael Middleton, who is holding her.


She is wearing a summer dress in the photograph which was taken by her mother Carole.

The Princess of Wales joins students on the Childhood Studies programme at the University of Leeds, West Yorkshire, which focuses on a broad approach to early childhood development, during her visit to the city for the launch of the Shaping Us campaign to raise awareness of the unique importance of early childhood. The Princess of Wales released the image on the official Kensington Royal Twitter account.

Kate launched her campaign called “Shaping Us” on Tuesday to raise awareness of the vital role early years play in shaping the rest of a child’s life.

In a series of tweets she said: “This weekend, we’d love for you all to spend time with your friends, families, colleagues and communities talking about your early childhoods and how they’ve shaped your lives.

“I hope you’ll also consider joining me in sharing a picture of yourselves before your fifth birthday to help with those conversations and to share some smiles and memories too.”

The tweets were signed off with a C.

The Shaping Us initiative, is a campaign described as her “life’s work” and aimed at raising the profile of the crucial period of a child’s development, from pregnancy to the age of five.

The campaign has the support of a number of famous people, including rapper Professor Green, presenter Fearne Cotton, former Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes and Lionesses’ captain Leah Williamson.

Earlier this week, Kate gave royal fans an exclusive insight into her life with the launch of a brand new Instagram account for the campaign.

It features an array of photos and videos of Kate carrying out her work on the campaign.

A number of celebrities also feature, with notable figures including Roman Kemp, Rochelle Humes and Kate Silverton.

The account has amassed over 45,000 followers in just three days as fans flock to the page to get a glimpse at Kate’s work.
