The Prince and Princess of Wales contacted a local church to 'offer their love and support'

Prince William and Princess Kate have offered to replace stolen items from a foodbank at a church in South Wales.

St Thomas Church in Swansea was broken into and had all their food supplies, baby toys and an orange bike stolen meaning hungry people had to be turned away following the overnight raid on Saturday.

In September 2022, the Prince and Princess of Wales visited the church and hailed the foodbank as a "lifeline" for struggling people.

Reverend Steve Bunting said he received an unexpected call from Kensington Palace on Wednesday.

Rev Bunting said the Prince and Princess contacted him to "offer their love and support", adding that they would like to replace the food that was stolen.

The Reverend explained that he believes the thief may have been a "desperate" previous user of the foodbank, who now needed help.

"The Prince and Princess of Wales contacted us earlier to offer their love and support," Rev Bunting told ITV.

"They would like to replace the food that was taken. They very much want to do that."

He has reported the burglary to South Wales Police because he wants to help those responsible.

The Reverend continued: "I think the likelihood is that it was someone who has previously used us, which makes it all the sadder.

"If someone had come in and said, 'I'm absolutely desperate, I need £20' it would have been easier for us to give it to them."

"Someone has got to be desperate to think a food bank is the best thing to steal from."

The community has since rallied around the church with food donations along with a £250 donation from Swansea Dockers Sports and Social Club.

"It's been a crazy 48 hours and we have been overwhelmed by kindness, from people dropping in £5 to the phone call this morning," Rev Bunting added.

"They all wanted to do something about it and it's testament to the people of this area and city."
