Prince William and Princess Kate have received an invitation to undertake their first overseas royal tour in three years.
The Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, issued the invitation to the Prince and Princess of Wales during his recent trip to the UK.
King Charles and the Prime Minister met at Balmoral Castle in Scotland and held a 90-minute meeting over the weekend.
Anthony Albanese said there was a “standing invitation” for William and Kate to visit Australia in the “coming period”.

King Charles and Queen Camilla carried out their own royal tour of Australia in 2024.
He said: “I’m certainly hoping there will be one, there’s a standing invitation that the Royal Family are always welcome in Australia.
“It was wonderful to welcome King Charles and Queen Camilla to Australia recently, who had a very successful visit and His Majesty is very engaged and I hope that the Prince and Princess of Wales are able to visit as well and we are hopeful that might occur in the coming period.”
The potential tour would most likely take place in July or August in 2026 to align with the school holidays.

Royal expert Robert Jobson said regarding the visit: “The period, I think, is probably going to be the summer of the UK when the kids are not in school.
“I can't see William and Kate going down to Australia and leaving the kids behind.
“Kate hasn't really done a foreign trip of any significance since 2022. So this is a major trip for her.”
Prince William and Princess Kate last visited Australia in 2014 with their eldest son, Prince George, who was a baby at the time.

The royal couple have not carried out an overseas royal tour since their 2022 visits to Belize, Jamaica, and the Bahamas as part of a Caribbean tour to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
On Saturday, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles and Queen Camilla will undertake a State Visit to the Holy See in late October 2025.
The King and Queen will join Pope Leo XIV in celebrating the 2025 Jubilee Year.
Traditionally marked every 25 years, a Papal Jubilee is a special time for the Catholic Church.
The exact dates of the October visit have not been confirmed, with further details set to be released next month.
