Buckingham Palace confirmed King Charles and Queen Camilla's participation

Questions remain over whether Princess Kate and Prince William will attend the Order of the Garter service at Windsor Castle on June 16.

Whilst Buckingham Palace confirmed King Charles and Queen Camilla's participation in the ceremony, the official statement refers only to "Members of the Royal Family" joining the procession to St George's Chapel.

The Palace announcement notably stops short of specifically naming Kate, 43, and William, 42, leaving their attendance uncertain.

The couple typically attend the service each year, though Kate was absent from the 2024 ceremony while undergoing cancer treatment.

Kate's relationship with the Order of the Garter ceremony dates back to 2008, when she observed the procession alongside Prince Harry before her marriage to William.

She wore a polka dot skirt suit ensemble for her debut appearance at the event.

Following her 2011 wedding, the Princess of Wales became a regular attendee at the annual service, though she did not participate in 2017 and 2018.

Her most recent absence occurred in 2024 during her cancer treatment, marking a rare break from what has become an established tradition for the future Queen.

The Order of the Garter represents Britain's most ancient and prestigious chivalric honour, founded by King Edward III approximately 700 years ago.

The traditional ceremony involves a formal procession from Windsor Castle to St George's Chapel, with participants returning by carriage following the service.

The Order comprises the King as Sovereign of the Garter, the Queen, various Royal Family members and a maximum of 24 Companions.

These Companions receive personal selection from the Sovereign in recognition of distinguished public service, exceptional contributions to national life, or personal service to the monarch.

The ceremony was suspended in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID pandemic.

The 2024 ceremony saw the installation of the Duchess of Gloucester as a new Companion of the Order.

Air Chief Marshal the Lord Peach, The Right Honourable the Lord Kakkar and The Lord Lloyd-Webber were also invested as Companions during last year's service.

The selection of new Companions remains the personal prerogative of the Sovereign, who chooses individuals based on their distinguished public service or significant contributions to British national life.

The Order maintains its exclusive membership limit of 24 Companions alongside the Royal Family members, preserving its status as Britain's most elite honour.
