PA have received no clarification from Kensington Palace regarding the photograph

Princess Kate and Prince William have suffered a fresh blow in the "manipulated" photo storm surrounding the official Mother's Day image released by Kensington Palace on Sunday.

The image was circulated by several major photography agencies including Getty, Reuters, AP and PA on Sunday.

However, AP, Getty and Reuters all removed the photograph from their platforms on Sunday due to fears that it had been manipulated.

PA, which is the UK's national news agency, had chosen not to remove the photograph and sought urgent clarification from Kensington Palace regarding the authenticity of the picture.

Kensington Palace had denied to comment on the photograph and PA released a statement confirming they had joined other major photo agencies in "killing" the picture.

A spokesperson for the UK’s national news agency said: "Like other news agencies, PA Media issued the handout image provided by Kensington Palace of the Princess of Wales and her children in good faith yesterday.

"We became aware of concerns about the image and we carried a report about it last night, and made clear that we were seeking urgent clarification about the image from Kensington Palace.

"In the absence of that clarification, we are killing the image from our picture service."
