Princess Kate has been leaning on the support of Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh following her public rift with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a royal commentator has claimed.
Despite the age gap between the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the two couples have bonded over the last few years.
Jennie Bond said: "Sometimes it seems strange to realise that these are two different generations of royals as they seem much closer.
"But, especially after all that has happened - not only with the Queen’s death but with Harry and Meghan leaving and Andrew getting 'sacked' - the two couples have formed a tight bond.

"I think William and Catherine feel they can confide in Edward and Sophie and there are so few people a royal can entrust with their thoughts and feelings.
"Both Sophie and Catherine have a common touch…perhaps because they lived 'normal' lives before marrying."
She added during an interview with OK! magazine: "They connect with the people they meet and look as if they really want to chat.
"They are the new female stars of the show - elegant, engaging and empathetic."

The Waleses and the Edinburghs showed their close bond during the recent Order of the Garter service, where Edward and William partook in the procession.
As they watched their husbands wear black velvet hats with white plumes, Kate and Sophie could be seen giggling together.
The two couples live very close to each other, with Kate and William at Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Castle Estate and Sophie and Edward in Bagshot Park, not too far away.

When the Duchess of Sussex married into the Royal Family, William and Harry and their respective wives were dubbed the "Fab Four" by the media.
However, after the Sussexes' departure from Britain and their many public statements about the Waleses and the wider institution of monarchy, the two couples have drifted.
This has seemingly led to the closer bond between Kate and Sophie and in turn the Waleses and the Edinburghs.
