The Princess of Wales has received an outpouring of support after revealing her cancer diagnosis

Owen Jones and conspiracy theorists have begun to apologise for making cruel statements about Princess Kate.

The Princess of Wales announced on Friday evening that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy for cancer.

This comes as Kate, 42, has been the victim of cruel online conspiracy theories over the last two months, ever since it was announced she was hospitalised.

In January, the mother-of-three spent 13 days in The London Clinic following major abdominal surgery.

Kate said the last couple of months have been "incredibly tough" as she had to explain the difficult situation to her children.

The news sparked anger directed towards those who spread conspiracy theories about her wellbeing.

Left-wing activist and journalist Owen Jones posted on X: "As someone who speculated on this without considering it could be a serious health condition, I'm very ashamed to be honest, and all the very best to her."

Actress Blake Lively issued an apology for mocking Kate's Photoshop blunder before the princess's diagnosis was revealed.

Writing on Instagram, she said: "I'm sure no one cares today but I feel like I have to acknowledge this.

"I made a silly post around the 'Photoshop fails' frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today.

"I'm sorry. Sending love and well wishes to all, always."

Former royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: "I hope those social media trolls who are peddling such ghastly theories will realise what they have done.

"Her absolute priority will be those three children."

Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter commented: "Forced to reveal news of her condition due to an insatiable global appetite for private details, the Princess of Wales has revealed she is undergoing treatment for cancer.

"Those who have sought to profit by promoting cruel conspiracy theories and fueling unsubstantiated rumours are unlikely to reflect on their actions but hopefully the princess’s statement will - at the very least - give them pause."

GB News host Camilla Tominey wrote on X: "Shame on those who peddled hurtful conspiracy theories amid a feeding frenzy over Kate’s whereabouts."

It is hoped, according to royal aides, that the speculation around the princess will stop now that she has revealed her diagnosis.

Kate is understood to go about her normal routine, which she sees as an important part of her recovery.

In her video statement, the 42-year-old asked for everyone to respect her and her family's privacy.
