The Princess of Wales underwent an abdominal operation in January

Kensington Palace’s statement on Princess Kate’s health has been backed by Britons.

The British public have been supportive of Kate’s decision to keep her medical information private.

In January the princess underwent a planned abdominal surgery at the London Clinic, but no other information was released about her procedure apart from that it was non-cancerous.

However, the public was informed that Kate would not be returning to official public duties until after Easter.

According to a recent survey, about half of respondents said that the royals released the “right” amount of detail about Kate’s health.

As Kate continued to recover questions about her whereabouts began to circulate on social media leading the palace to reaffirm the princess’s recovery timeline.

Kensington Palace said: “We were very clear from the outset that the Princess of Wales was out until after Easter and Kensington Palace would only be providing updates when something was significant.”

A new poll by YouGov found that 49 percent of respondents thought they were given the “right” amount of information about Kate’s health while only 20 per cent said they had been given “too little.”

The organisation asked 3,491 British adults on March 11: "It was announced in [January] that Catherine, Princess of Wales, is recovering at home after abdominal surgery and is expected to return to duties after Easter. Thinking about the information that has been released to the public about the Princess's health, do you think the Royal Family have announced too much detail, too little, or have got the balance about right?"

Six per cent of the respondents said that the royals gave “too much” information and 24 per cent said that they “don’t know.”

Although there have been no further details about Princess Kate’s operation, it was confirmed to be non-cancerous.

In contrast to Kate, the King has been very open about his recent health concerns including being treated for an enlarged prostate and being diagnosed with cancer.

In late January the King was admitted to hospital for treatment of an enlarged prostate.

On February 5, the King’s cancer diagnosis was announced with a statement from Buckingham Palace.

Although the King announced he was diagnosed with cancer, the type of cancer was not reported.

The King has remained very open about his medical treatments this year in a bid to “assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
