Gary Goldsmith has received mixed reviews on Celebrity Big Brother

Princess Kate's uncle has waded into the Princess of Wales's background, telling Celebrity Big Brother that his sister Carole Middleton was "a multi-millionaire" before she reached her thirties.

Gary Goldsmith, 58, is the younger brother of Carole Middleton and a contestant on this year's series of Celebrity Big Brother.

Kate's uncle was chatting to fellow contestant Fern Britton during Wednesday's episode when he was asked about the Goldsmith family background, the Princess of Wales's maternal family.

Goldsmith said: "Humble stock. Dad was a painter and decorator. Mum was an accounts clerk, so they worked hard.

"But Carole and I were both 'multi' before we were 30."

After being asked to clarify what he meant by Britton, Goldsmith said: "Multi-millionaires."

He added: "That's why I get really a bit narky when they say Kate's a commoner.

"There's nothing common about the family, nothing."

Britton later said about Princess Kate: "She's a very well-brought-up woman."

During the Celebrity Big Brother season 23 premiere, Goldsmith shared his thoughts on the Royal Family.

He was asked by fellow contestant Louis Walsh if he was allowed to discuss the royals while in the Big Brother House

Goldsmith replied: “I can pretty much say my opinion about everything unless there’s a red laser dot on my chest.”

The Big Brother contestant is the younger brother of the Princess of Wales's mother, Carole Middleton.

He also told Louis Walsh his opinions about the Duke of Sussex, saying: “Harry was really, really loved, massively loved."

Regarding whether Harry will ever return to the UK, Goldsmith said: “He might need to. I think we’re a very forgiving nation. I think everyone will give him a chance again.

“I think the meanest thing I said was, ‘He wouldn’t make my pub quiz team.’”

Speaking about his family nickname, Goldsmith said: “They call me a ‘Buncle,' a bad uncle; apparently, every family has them.

“It’s difficult to get hold of Kate at the best of times, and she’s got children, and I love the fact that she’s putting family first.”

He continued to praise his niece and the Prince of Wales: “Her and William are the saviour of the Royal Family.

“Although I will say, Charles has done a spectacular job.”
