Princess Kate is being tipped to reference her Middleton roots at the Royal Family’s traditional Christmas Day walk at Sandringham, according to a fashion commentator.

The Christmas morning appearance at St Mary Magdalene Church is one of the most photographed fixtures in the royal calendar.

In recent years, the Sandringham walk has become a key public test of how the Princess of Wales manages scrutiny during one of the Royal Family’s most visible annual events.

It is also a moment when small accessories can receive lots of attention, such as earrings chosen to complement a coat colour, or brooches that reference family heritage.

Tobias Kormind, Managing Director at 77 Diamonds, told GB News the Princess of Wales is likely to stay within a familiar style lane for the occasion.

He said: "The Princess of Wales can be expected to opt for understated elegance with her jewellery choices for the annual Christmas morning walk at Sandringham.

"Last year, the Princess chose to accessorise with blue topaz and diamond earrings that stunningly complemented her blue sapphire engagement ring, which belonged to her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales.

"This year, I expect her to opt for gemstone earrings, or perhaps a diamond and pearl brooch similar to one she sported in 2015, nodding to her family roots.

"Such discreet choices would align perfectly with her sophisticated style and her respect for long-standing festive tradition."

The Princess’s 2024 Sandringham look attracted particular interest because of her blue topaz and diamond earrings by Robinson Pelham, paired with her sapphire engagement ring, long associated with Diana, Princess of Wales.

If she leans into the same approach this year, Mr Kormind’s prediction suggests the emphasis will be on cohesion rather than spectacle, that is, jewellery that works with what Kate is wearing.

It will also likely feel appropriate for a morning church service before the family’s private Christmas celebrations.

Mr Kormind additionally pointed to the possibility of a diamond and pearl brooch, referencing a similar choice in 2015.

That year, the Princess wore a diamond and pearl oak leaf and acorn brooch, a piece whose design reflects the oak leaves and acorns in the Middleton family coat of arms.

Brooches can be especially useful for Sandringham because the royal women typically wear structured winter coats, and a brooch gives a focal point without competing with hats or scarves.

A brooch also offers a quiet way to build narrative into an outfit, whether the story is personal heritage, a nod to tradition, or simply a preference for classic British jewellery styling.

Mr Kormind’s comments also reflect something consistent about the Princess of Wales’s public wardrobe: she rarely uses Christmas Day to debut something wildly new.

Instead, Kate tends to choose refined pieces that photographers can see clearly, and which sit comfortably within the tone of the day.

That can mean gemstone earrings that pick up a colour in her coat or hat, or formal and timeless pearls.
