The Princess of Wales hosts a festive Christmas carol concert every year

A date for Princess Kate's yearly Christmas carol concert has been confirmed for this year in a very bizarre way - through the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

The Princess of Wales has established her own Christmas tradition during recent years by hosting a carol concert to mark the festive period.

A carol concert for Christmas 2023 has not officially been confirmed, but details have emerged from an unconventional source.

An announcement on behalf of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester confirmed that the concert will occur on December 8.

It also stated that the festive event will be held in Westminster Abbey, as it has done for the past two years.

A listing in the Royal Family's website's upcoming events section states: "The Duke of Gloucester, The Duchess of Gloucester will attend a Carol Service held by The Princess of Wales in Westminster Abbey, London."

The Duke of Gloucester was a first cousin of the late Queen and is currently an active representative of King Charles III.

He undertakes hundreds of official engagements each year. For instance, in 2022 he completed 100 while Princess Kate only did 90.

Last year King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince Edward, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Zara and Mike Tindall, Princess Eugenie, and Princess Beatrice were among the guests who attended "Together At Christmas".

This was the second annual carol concert hosted by the Princess of Wales - the first being in 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic.

Kate and William's two oldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, made an unexpected appearance last year.

George and Charlotte sweetly greeted the King with two kisses when they met inside the Abbey.

Although Prince Louis did not go to the concert, he was seen with his siblings on Christmas Day at Sandringham.

For both years, the concert was pre-recorded and broadcast on ITV on Christmas Eve.

Last year's service paid special tributes to the late Queen Elizabeth II, who had died just three months before.

Princess Kate was seen decorating a Christmas tree with Paddington Bears in a nod to her appearance with the children's character at the Platinum Jubilee Concert in 2022.
