King Charles officially stripped Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor of his Knight of the Garter title in 2025

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is experiencing his first total exclusion from Garter Day festivities in 20 years, six months after he officially lost his Knight of the Garter title.

This past weekend, which included Trooping the Colour, has proven "really hard" for the King's younger brother, a source has claimed.

"He's become used to watching his family celebrate Trooping without him, but Garter Day will be a really tough day for him," the source told the Express.

"It's one of those days that reminds him of all that he's lost. He's feeling more isolated than ever; he's completely alone."

While Mr Mountbatten-Windsor had been barred from the public procession at Windsor Castle since 2022, he had continued to participate in elements behind the scenes.

Until recently, his membership in the Order of the Garter, which he had held since 2006, permitted him to attend the private investiture ceremony and traditional luncheon alongside other knights and ladies of the order.

That arrangement came to an abrupt end last October when he was stripped of all remaining royal titles amid renewed scrutiny of his connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The decision removed his status as a knight companion of Britain's oldest and most prestigious order of chivalry, blocking him from every aspect of the annual celebration.

King Charles officially stripped Mr Mountbatten-Windsor of his Knight of the Garter title on December 1, 2025.

The cancellation was formally published in The Gazette, the official public record of the UK, with the annulment backdated to October 30, 2025.

The King and Queen are attending today's grand ceremony, which features members of the order processing from Windsor Castle's State Apartments down to St George's Chapel.

Participants don the distinctive regalia of white plumed hats and dark blue velvet robes as crowds gather to watch.

Three new companions are joining the order's ranks: Lord Hennessy, Lord O'Donnell, and Lord Burnett.

The King will conduct their investiture in a private ceremony within the Garter Throne Room before they take their place in the public procession.

Once the chapel service concludes, members of the Royal Family will return to the Castle by carriage.

The former prince's fall from grace began in 2019 when he stepped back from official duties following his widely criticised Newsnight interview about his friendship with Epstein.

His HRH title and military patronages were removed in January 2022, shortly before he reached a settlement with Virginia Giuffre, who alleged he had sexual relations with her when she was 17.

He has consistently and forcefully denied these claims, and the settlement included no admission of wrongdoing.

Last October brought the final blow: the removal of his Prince and Duke of York titles, his Garter membership, and his Royal Victorian Order status.

He and his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, were also told to vacate Royal Lodge in Windsor.
