Cindy Romero was once a staunch Democrat

A Denver resident has revealed how gang violence at her apartment complex drove her to switch political allegiance from Democrat to Republican.

Cindy Romero shared her harrowing experience during an appearance on GB News, detailing how the traumatic incident forced her to flee her home and ultimately led to a dramatic shift in her political allegiance.

Once a staunch supporter of strict gun control measures, Romero explained how the terrifying ordeal caused her to reconsider her position and eventually embrace opposing views on firearm legislation.

Romero recounted the chilling sequence of events that led to the murder. "Earlier that morning, I had seen them with those guns and six gentlemen were carrying them down the steps from the third floor to the second," she told GB News.

Romero and her husband were forced to move out of their Edge Lory apartments due to serious safety concerns after documenting armed men in their complex.

The situation escalated when the armed men noticed her. "They were walking on the stairs and saw me seeing them. I called the police. They sent a guy over to talk to us to say there's no problems, no police," she explained.

The emotional impact of witnessing such violence left a profound mark on Romero. When asked about her reaction to seeing the body, she responded: "It was terrifying. I can't think about it now without getting emotional."

Security footage from the Romeros captured heavily armed men storming through their block with weapons. After one shootout, the couple's car was riddled with bullets.

"I was a Democrat, I believed in gun control. I believe in strict laws and keeping guns out of the hands of children, until it happened to me," she admitted during the interview.

The incident forced her to confront her previous assumptions about firearm legislation and public safety, leading to a significant shift in her perspective on these issues.

Following her traumatic experience, Romero now holds markedly different views on gun legislation. "I firmly believe now that gun rights and control laws help with these criminals," she stated during her GB News appearance.

Speaking to Fox News in October 2024, Romero declared: "I'm going to vote Republican. And I'm going to do it every year until someone does something about this problem. I don't want my kids to be the next victims of this."

She expressed feeling traumatised by her experiences: "I feel trauma. I don't think I'm ever going to be able to get over this."

Romero shared her story during Trump's appearance in Aurora, Colorado, where he announced a new initiative targeting illegal migrants. The former president unveiled "Operation Aurora" whilst standing next to enlarged mugshots of gang members apprehended by local police.

Trump described the operation as "a gang member removal program" that would "target and dismantle every illegal migrant criminal network operating on American soil," invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

The Colorado town gained national attention in August when the Romeros' footage of armed men in their apartment complex emerged online. Trump has repeatedly claimed that Venezuelan gangs are taking over buildings in the area.
