Trump warned Iran that the US's patience 'is wearing thin'

Donald Trump has stalled on his decision to launch strikes into Iran for up to two weeks - giving Tehran one "last chance" to strike a deal ending its nuclear programme.

The US President appeared to soften his position, following reports that he was considering an attack and issued a cryptic message stating: "I may do it, I may not do it. I mean, nobody knows what I'm going to do."

The UK and Europe have warned Trump against attacking Iran, as it poses a risk of endangering Westerners being held by the Islamic Republic.

Sir Keir Starmer insisted on "cool heads and a return to diplomacy", with a spokesman for Number 10 adding: "We would not want to see anything that ramps up the situation."

Foreign Secretary David Lammy is due to meet with other European foreign ministers today, as talks are set to be held with their Iranian counterpart in Geneva, Switzerland.

Lammy, Jean-Noel Barrot and Johann Wadephul will meet Kaja Kallas, the EU's top diplomat, to discuss how to avoid an all-out war in the Middle East.

French President Emmanuel Macron issued a similar statement to Starmer, calling for an urgent end to the Israel-Iran war.

Macron believes that Israel's bombing campaign has moved beyond its original targets of Iran's nuclear production and ballistic missile facilities.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Iranian state TV that there is "no room for negotiations with the US until Israeli aggression stops".

Araghchi added that Tehran will "not hold talks" with the US, due to it being a partner in Israeli crime against Iran.

Trump's press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, told reporters in the White House briefing room the President's intentions on securing a deal to end Iran's nuclear programme.

Leavitt quoted Trump saying: "Based on the fact that there's a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks."

She added: "The President is always interested in a diplomatic solution...he is a peacemaker in chief. He is the peace through strength President.

"And so if there's a chance for diplomacy, the President's always going to grab it...but he's not afraid to use strength as well, I will add."

The comments come after Trump wrote on his Truth Social page that the US, "know exactly where" Iran's "so-called Supreme Leader", Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is hiding.

Trump described him as an "easy target" who is currently "safe" in his current location.

The President added: "We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don't want missiles shot at civilians or American soldiers.

"Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
