Donald Trump has made a personal intervention into the New York City mayoral election on the last day before the Big Apple heads to the polls.
In a blistering message to locals before voting begins on November 4, Mr Trump warned of the threat of "communist" Zohran Mamdani.
If Mr Mamdani wins, Mr Trump said he would move to slash federal funding to his "beloved" city of birth.
Under the "communist", the President added, "this once great city has zero chance of success, or even survival.
"It can only get worse with a communist at the helm, and I don't want to send, as President, good money after bad."
Mr Trump continued: "It is my obligation to run the nation, and it is my strong conviction that New York City will be a complete and total economic and social disaster should Mamdani win.
"His principles have been tested for over a thousand years, and never once have they been successful."
Mr Mamdani is the overwhelming favourite to cruise to power in NYC after securing the Democratic Party nomination over former state Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels unarmed crime prevention group, is the Republican nominee.
But the President has unusually backed Mr Cuomo, now an independent.
"I would much rather see a Democrat, who has had a record of success, win, than a communist with no experience and a record of COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE," Mr Trump blasted.
"He was nothing as an assemblyman, ranked at the bottom of the class and, as mayor of potentially, again, the greatest city in the world, HE HAS NO CHANCE to bring it back to its former glory!"

In a blow to Mr Sliwa, the President declared a vote for his party colleague would be a vote for Mr Mamdani.
"Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not," Mr Trump added.
Elon Musk offered the same endorsement, saying: "Bear in mind that a vote for Curtis is really a vote for Mumdumi or whatever his name is. VOTE CUOMO!"
The "communist" mayoral candidate has pledged to raise taxes on "whiter" neighbourhoods in the city, bring supermarkets into public ownership, and has taken advice from Sir Sadiq Khan.
Just days ago, he urged the city's one million Muslims to "step into the light" and vote.

| PAHe has also shared photos of himself smiling alongside Imam Siraj Wahhaj, an unindicted co-conspirator in the deadly 1993 World Trade Centre bombing who once called for an unarmed "army" of 10,000 men to wage a "gun-free jihad" in NYC.
And over the weekend, hard-left Your Party boss Jeremy Corbyn revealed he would be helping Mr Mamdani's campaign - sparking fury from Trump-backed Mr Cuomo.
"Having Jeremy Corbyn - someone whose party was found to have committed unlawful acts of discrimination against Jewish people under his leadership - phone-banking for Zohran Mamdani says everything you need to know," he said.
“New York doesn’t need the politics of moral compromise. We need leadership that rejects antisemitism, extremism, and division in every form and in every corner."
