Donald Trump has revealed the existence of a secret American weapon dubbed "The Discombobulator," which he claims proved instrumental in the dramatic capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro earlier this month.
Speaking to the New York Post from the Oval Office, the President said: "The Discombobulator. I'm not allowed to talk about it."
Despite his professed reluctance, Mr Trump proceeded to outline the device's capabilities during the January 3 operation in Caracas.
"They never got their rockets off. They had Russian and Chinese rockets, and they never got one off. We came in, they pressed buttons and nothing worked. They were all set for us," he said.
The weapon allegedly rendered enemy military equipment entirely inoperable as American helicopters descended on the Venezuelan capital to apprehend Mr Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
An account attributed to a Venezuelan security guard loyal to the dictator paints a harrowing picture of the weapon's effects on those defending the former leader.
The unnamed witness described the moment American forces deployed the device: "Suddenly I felt like my head was exploding from the inside."
"We all started bleeding from the nose. Some were vomiting blood. We fell to the ground, unable to move," the guard recounted in testimony shared by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on January 10.

The soldier characterised the assault as a "massacre" and claimed he had "never seen anything like it".
He added: "We couldn't even stand up after that sonic weapon or whatever it was."
Prior to the raid, the witness reported that radar systems inexplicably ceased functioning and swarms of drones appeared overhead, followed by around eight helicopters carrying around 20 American troops.
The operation resulted in significant casualties on the Venezuelan side, with officials reporting more than 83 deaths, including 47 soldiers.

Prosecutors allege he permitted "cocaine-fuelled corruption to flourish for his own benefit, for the benefit of members of his ruling regime, and for the benefit of his family members".
Both Mr Maduro and his wife have entered not guilty pleas.
The Kremlin has demanded Washington provide further details regarding the sonic weapon deployed during the raid.
Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Vladimir Putin, announced that Russian authorities would launch an investigation into Mr Trump's remarks about the device.
