Donald Trump covets Greenland because he is trying to create a legacy to mirror history-making United States presidents from the past, a senior Washington political consultant told GB News.
Gerry Gunster, chief executive of Gunster Strategies Worldwide, told Chopper's Political Podcast the Republican was motivated by how history will judge him.
He told the People's Channel: "I have to believe that maybe there is a legacy issue for him that says, 'I want to be remembered for these kinds of things as well'.
"'I want to be up there with (former US Presidents) Jefferson and Polk, and people remember me as expanding US territory.'"

He added: "And there's a limited amount of territory in the world and he wants Greenland."
Mr Gunster was with Reform UK leader Nigel Farage when he met the then-president-elect in Trump Tower in New York City, days after winning the 2016 election.
Mr Gunster poured cold water on the idea an invasion of Greenland would be popular among Greenlanders.
He said: "Let's put it this way.

"He would lose the American public overnight.
"It's a nonstarter if he invades.
"There is no way American people will stomach sending troops to a piece of ice with 57,000 people.
"You and I are old enough to remember when Ronald Reagan invaded Grenada."

"There's 57,000 people there, and it would be a pretty easy task for the United States government to go (there).
"But that’s what the American people do not want.
"This is a president a year ago who stood up and said, 'It's America first'.
"How is this America First?
"It's questionable.
"And it is starting to cause a rift in his own party about what he is doing with Greenland."
