Susan Hall has been a vocal opponent of Ulez, describing the expansion as "disastrous" and pledging to reverse it on "day one" if she becomes Mayor

Sadiq Khan's biggest opponent - the Conservative's candidate for Mayor of London - needs more support, Tory MP Craig Mackinlay has admitted.

He warned that there are "no votes in clobbering the motorists", nodding to Sadiq Khan's expansion of London's Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez).

GB News Presenter Camilla Tominey asked Mackinlay about mayoral candidate Susan Hall, saying: "She's got no speech at conference and Rishi Sunak has never tweeted anything about her or for her. That's wrong, isn't it?"

She added: "It's just a woman being allowed to just sort of like, you know, flap around in the wind and not have any help to beat Sadiq Khan."

Mackinlay responded: "We all would have thought on the back of the Ulez vote effectively - in South Ruislip just a few weeks ago - there are no votes in clobbering the motorists.

"And Susan Hall is very much on side with that plan to actually get rid of that Ulez charge."

He added: "I think because of the effect on outer London, she's in with a shout and so she should be supported."

Hall has described the expansion of Ulez as "disastrous", pledging to reverse it on "day one" if she becomes Mayor.

She previously told GB News: "Londoners have made their voices loud and clear on Sadiq Khan’s disastrous Ulez expansion.

"The Mayor has pursued this policy that does next to nothing to improve air quality, while hitting the poorest with a ÂŁ12.50 daily charge.

"I will stop the Ulez expansion on day one of my Mayoralty."

The ÂŁ12.50 Ulez charge applies to vehicles that do not meet up-to-date emissions standards.

It was recently expanded to cover the whole of London, having previously covered just inner London.

If a vehicle does not meet Ulez emission standards, drivers who fail to pay receive a penalty charge notice of up to ÂŁ180.

This is reduced to ÂŁ90 if paid within two weeks. The fines increased in January from ÂŁ160 and ÂŁ80 respectively.

The charge has faced growing backlash since its expansion over the summer.
