Reform UK will do battle with Labour and the Liberal Democrats tomorrow as Nigel Farage's party looks to win four council by-elections across Britain.
The party surged in this month's local elections and is hoping to continue its momentum.
Mr Farage’s party is using these council by-elections to sustain its national momentum, targeting both traditionally Conservative rural areas and urban strongholds of the left.
They are standing candidates in Bridport, Kirkham, Castle, and Alfrick, Leigh & Rushwick.
The Liberal Democrats are the only other political party to run candidates in all contests tomorrow.
Labour, the Green Party, and the Conservatives are also contesting some wards but have failed to contest all four.
Kirkham Ward, Fylde
Incumbent Independent Councillor Damian Buckley announced his resignation from his seat for reasons not released to the public, forcing the by-election.
His formal departure took place in March 2026, and the seat has remained vacant ever since.
Reform UK holds massive momentum in the area after recently taking comprehensive control of the Lancashire County Council with 53 out of 84 seats.
The Reform UK candidate, Joshua Roberts, already has local electoral success in the immediate area, having won the Fylde East division in the County Council elections.
The main fight is expected to be between Reform UK and the Conservatives.
Kirkham, Fylde Council candidates:
- Adam Jake Brierley - Conservative and Unionist Party
- Oliver Mark Mills - Labour Party
- Philip James Morgan - Liberal Democrats
- Joshua Roberts - Reform UK

Bridport Ward, Dorset
The Bridport Ward seat on the Dorset Council was triggered by the death of Liberal Democrat Councillor Dave Bolwell.
Reform UK faces an uphill battle to win, despite the party's strong national momentum, as Bridport has historically been a strong area for the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party.
In the previous full Dorset Council elections for the Ward, the Liberal Democrats won all three available seats.
The Green Party came close, and the Conservatives have historically maintained a solid baseline of support across the wider West Dorset region.
Bridport, Dorset Council candidates:
- Una Mary Christopher - Local Conservatives
- Kelvin Charles Clayton - Green Party
- Jason Holt - Reform UK
- Paddy Mooney - Liberal Democrats

Castle Ward, Lancaster
The by-election for the Castle Ward seat on Lancaster City Council was triggered by the resignation of Green Party Councillor Isabella Metcalf-Riener, who stepped down after finishing her postgraduate course at Lancaster University and moved away from the district.
The ward's other two seats are currently held by the Greens, who won them comfortably.
Despite the party's massive momentum across Lancashire, the area is a progressive, left-leaning stronghold with a high student population, so Reform has very low expectations of winning.
The Local Conservatives failed to field any candidate for this vote.
Castle Ward, Lancaster Council candidates:
- William David Evans - Labour Party
- Will Farley - Green Party
- Malcolm Allan Martin - Liberal Democrats
- Marco Wright - Reform UK

Alfrick, Leigh & Rushwick ward, Malvern Hills
The by-election for the Alfrick, Leigh & Rushwick ward on Lancaster City Council was triggered by the resignation of Independent Councillor Peter Whatley.
He stepped down because he felt the authority had become "unproductive as a body", citing frustration with recent "bad decisions".
The ward has historically been a safe zone for the Malvern Hills Independents, securing roughly 1,000 votes each compared to just 300 for the Conservatives and 239 for the Lib Dems in the last elections.
Reform UK has already demonstrated massive regional strength in Malvern Hills, including in a nearby District Council by-election in Tenbury, where they pulled off a dramatic win, securing a dominant 45.1 per cent of the vote and taking the seat directly from the Conservatives.
Alfrick, Leigh & Rushwick Ward, Malvern Hills Council candidates:
- Charlie Anderton - Green Party
- Seb Barbour - Local Conservatives
- Tom Clarke - Independent
- Chris McSweeny - Liberal Democrats
- Matt Oliver - Independent
- Max Windsor-Peplow - Reform UK
